Subject: Unheeded Cry

Dear Mr. Fuchs:

I finished reading The Unheeded Cry. My parents were from Slovakia. Myfather O'H ( he died in 1977) was from Dobra nad Ondava and my mother from Kosice. I have a much better idea of what my father went through after reading your book. He rarely talked about the War. He was in Slovak Army in 1942. I have a picture of his group. It was a Jewish labor group I think. The title is Pracovny Tabor Lipt. SV. Peter. This saved his life as his parents, brothers and sister were deported and sent to Maidanek or so he was told. He had an older brother who was in the Army also and after his duty was hiding with relatives (Altman family) in Nitra. They were the only survivors of the family. My uncle passed away last October. Is there any information you can give me about the deportations from Dobra. I recently bought a movie called "The Shop on Main Street" which I'm sure you know is about a deportation from a Slovak town. In the movie, while the authorities are calling out the name of the Jewish families to be deported, Hopkovitz is one of the names. I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me or lead me to in finding out what happened to my paternal grandparents. My mother and her sister and parents were deported to Auschwitz right before Shavuot 1944. She and her sister survived. Her maiden name was Turk.

Thank you very much for any information you can give me.

Regards

Michael S. Hopkovitz
